It’s official. It’s time to reclaim the throne.

On Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan, our very own Jonathan “The General” Haggerty will challenge Nabil Anane for the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Championship at ONE 173. The bantamweight strap is back in play — and Jon is coming for it.

Fight Announcement – a clash of kings and a clash of styles

After the official announcement of the fight from ONE Championship, Jon is delighted to announce the fight here as well via the Haggerty’s Academy website, as he bids to once again become the 2 sport world champion and add back his the Muay Thai championship to his Kickboxing world championship.

As well as facing the new Muay Thai champion Nabil Anane, this fight will be part of a huge card featuring some of the other biggest names in the world of combat sports, such as 2 of Jon’s former opponents Rodtang vs Nong-O – ONE 173 in Tokyo is shaping up to be a night to remember.

Nabil Anane: The Challenge In Front Of Jon

At 21 and 6’4″, Nabil Anane brings rare physical dimensions to bantamweight, plus momentum from a six fight win streak since 2023. He’s dangerous at range and confident in long exchanges. That’s the assignment — and Jon embraces it.

Haggerty ready to rise back to the top of Muay Thai

“The General’s” career has been defined by big fights and even bigger moments and challenges – crowds and viewers alike love Jon’s technical brilliance, eye-catching style and entertaining fights. His fight against Nong-O on April 22, 2023 at Lumpinee was seen as a fight of the underdog against a seemingly unbeatable favourite at the time, until Jon produced a sensational first round knock out of the muay thai legend to bring his 10-0 promotional streak to an end.

Although Nabil at 21 provides a different challenge, there are similarities in the build up to this fight after Nabil has produced impressive wins over Nico Carillo and Superlek on his rise to becoming the current Bantamweight king.

The similarities aren’t lost on Jon and simply act as motivation to produce yet another career and legacy defining performance. Fight fans in Tokyo will be looking forward to witnessing a real clash of styles and 2 excellent fighters – but we believe Haggerty has the technical brilliance to unlock the key to beating Nabil and ending his streak in the ONE Championship Bantamweight division.
